You will have the opportunity to shape platforms used in demand response, battery storage, energy optimization, and grid modernization across North America.

EOS Software Engineer Position Summary

  • Rodan Energy is seeking a technically versatile Senior Software Engineer to build and evolve industry-leading Energy Optimization Solutions (EOS) and help shape the future of software, data, automation, and AI across the organization. This is a hands-on engineering and technical leadership role for a builder who enjoys solving difficult problems, modernizing architecture, launching new capabilities, and translating energy-market opportunities into reliable, scalable products. You will influence technology strategy and engineering standards, mentor developers, and work across disciplines to deliver solutions that optimize energy assets, enable market participation, improve grid reliability, and support the energy transition. As Rodan scales, the role offers a path to broader technical leadership and potential people-management responsibilities.

Your Impact:

  • The software you build will help customers respond to changing grid conditions, optimize distributed energy resources, participate effectively in electricity markets, and operate critical energy assets with greater reliability and insight. Your technical decisions will directly influence Rodan’s products, delivery capabilities, customer outcomes, and ability to support grid modernization initiatives across North America.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, review, test, deploy, and support backend services, APIs, integrations, and data-processing workflows.

  • Own the technical health, reliability, scalability, maintainability, and code quality of EOS platforms, and lead root-cause analysis for complex production issues.

  • Shape the technical direction of EOS and related software, data, automation, and AI capabilities by defining engineering standards, evaluating emerging technologies, evolving architecture, and translating strategic opportunities into pragmatic delivery roadmaps.

  • Develop and support SQL Server and MySQL databases, including schema changes, migrations, upgrades, and performance troubleshooting.

  • Own and improve CI/CD pipelines, Azure hosting and deployment models, automated testing, observability, and monitoring.

  • Lead technical workstreams: translate business requirements into solution designs, break initiatives into deliverable work packages, and manage risks and dependencies.

  • Provide technical oversight and coordination for internal developers, contractors, consultants, and external vendors.

  • Participate in business-development and pre-sales activities, including effort estimates, technical assessments, and solution recommendations for new software opportunities and market initiatives.

  • Mentor and develop software engineers, raise engineering standards through design and code reviews, support hiring and onboarding, and help shape team structure and capability as the organization grows. The successful candidate will have opportunities to expand into broader technical leadership and potential people-management responsibilities.

  • Develop a strong understanding of Rodan’s operational applications and workflows to identify modernization opportunities, improve integration and resilience, and provide informed technical leadership when critical cross-platform issues arise.

  • Evaluate architectural options and provide recommendations balancing cost, risk, maintainability, scalability, delivery timing, and operational supportability.

  • Lead the practical adoption of AI-enabled software engineering across design, development, testing, documentation, operations, and knowledge work. Evaluate and introduce AI-assisted development tools, intelligent automation, and agentic workflows that improve quality and productivity while maintaining appropriate review, security, governance, and accountability. Identify opportunities to embed AI capabilities into internal platforms and customer-facing energy solutions.

  • Promote adoption of Secure SDLC, change-management practices, automated testing, and code-quality tooling.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of professional software development experience, including 3+ years in a technical leadership role.

  • Strong software engineering fundamentals and advanced hands-on experience building secure, scalable services, APIs, integrations, and data-processing solutions using modern languages and frameworks, including C#/.NET and Python. Candidates should be able to select and learn technologies based on the problem rather than be limited to a single framework.

  • Strong architecture and solution-design experience across cloud-native services, APIs and systems integration, event-driven platforms, data-processing pipelines, automation, security, observability, and resilient distributed systems.

  • Strong SQL Server and/or MySQL development and administration experience, including migrations and performance troubleshooting.

  • Experience with Azure cloud services and enterprise application hosting, including containers, infrastructure as code, secure configuration, and telemetry.

  • Strong Azure DevOps and Git experience, including automated build and release pipelines, testing, and code-quality controls.

  • Experience integrating enterprise software with operational technology such as SCADA, control systems, Modbus, or MQTT.

  • Demonstrated experience applying AI-assisted engineering tools, intelligent automation, machine learning services, or agentic workflows to improve software delivery, operational processes, analytics, or customer-facing products.

  • Proven track record building and evolving complex software products through full-lifecycle delivery, including the launch of new capabilities, modernization of existing platforms, resolution of difficult technical problems, and reliable operation of production systems.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with energy market, utility, DER, SCADA, or energy-management platforms (e.g. resource optimization, dispatching and bidding, etc).

  • Experience supporting operationally critical or near-real-time systems, including event-driven ingestion and message brokers.

  • Experience using Python for backend services, data engineering, analytics, automation, AI or machine learning applications, ingestion processes, and ETL workflows.

  • Experience building web applications and operational dashboards with Vue.js, TypeScript, and charting libraries.

  • Experience modernizing legacy .NET applications and databases.

  • Experience leading external software development vendors and consulting partners.

  • Experience deploying Azure-hosted services using Docker containers, infrastructure as code such as Bicep or Terraform, secure configuration and secrets management, and operational telemetry using OpenTelemetry or equivalent tooling.

  • Experience with workflow and business-process automation, analytics and data-processing platforms, or low-code integration tools that improve operational efficiency and enable rapid delivery of business capabilities.
